What is hightone records?

Hightone Records is an independent record label established in 1983 by Larry Sloven and his wife, Bruce Bromberg. The label is based in Oakland, California, and specializes in roots and Americana music, including country, blues, rockabilly, and folk. Hightone's early releases included albums by notable artists such as Joe Ely, Dave Alvin, and Robert Cray. In the 1990s, the label began to focus more on younger artists like The Blasters, The Derailers, and Jesse Dayton. Hightone has received numerous awards for its releases, including multiple Grammy nominations. The label continues to release albums by established artists as well as up-and-coming musicians in the roots music genres.
